On May 20, 2008, Renesas unveiled the high-speed, high-efficiency 32-bit MCU
"RX600 series" for the new built-in CPU RX family.

New CPU RX
Family
|
|
Announced in November 2007, the RX CPU architecture was developed as a
new-generation CPU that achieves the high performance, low power consumption,
greater code efficiency and greater cost performance called for in mid-range
MCUs. The RX series powered by RX CPUs - the RX600 - features enhancements in
performance and peripheral functions required by different applications and
controlled objects.

The High-Speed,
High-Efficiency "RX600 Series"
|
|
The 32-bit "RX600" MCU series with RX CPU is the high-speed,
high-efficiency model of the RX family. The maximum operating frequency is 200
MHz, and the CPU features a 32-bit multiplier and 32-bit MAC (multiply and
accumulate). In addition, the built-in floating-point unit enhances superior
control operations such as digital filter and Fourier conversions. The lineup
of general-purpose products and ASSP products is expanding for the RX600 as a
32-bit MCU series.
As the inaugural product in the lineup, Renesas plans to commercialize a
general-purpose MCU with large-capacity memory for office automation equipment
and consumer electronics. The engineering sample (ES) of the inaugural product
is scheduled for release in the second quarter of 2009 (between April and
June).
There are also plans to develop and expand a "RX200 series" focusing on
low power consumption.

Development by
the MCU Development Platform
|
|
The RX family products are developed by the MCU development platform.
Development through the platform makes it possible to provide products with a
short TAT, and the products support customers who are working with
rapidly-evolving systems. In addition, by structuring the peripheral functions
of Renesas' existing MCUs - the H8S, H8SX, M16C and R32C series and so on -
into IPs and turning them into assets, Renesas is able to pass on their
functions to the RX family, while at the same time incorporating new functions
without difficulty.
|
|
Even the
Development Environment Can Be Shared with Existing Products
|
|
Compatibility of the development environment of the RX family is ensured with
existing products by supporting the compiler language specifications and both
big and little endians of the H8S, H8SX, M16C and R32C series, and providing
the conversion tool from the assembler program.
